Oh! And i want to add Andy Murray to most misunderstood player!
By misunderstood i mean judged. For example, people often say Federer is arrogant, which he isn’t. Soderling had a bad reputation for some reason and Murray is often thought of as dull and emotionless which he isn’t underneath it all :)

Florial – thanks :) i like writing these sorts of questions, it brings all the tennis fans together away from the competitiveness and arguments.
Florial – By the way, i actually added Mario to that list especially for you :) see, i remember!

Can you PLEASE help me decide what to do?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Here is my dilemma. Today I was offered VIP tickets to watch S. Williams, J. Isner, Melanie Oudin, and S. Querrey play at UGA. The tickets are worth 70 bucks. I will also have the chance to meet each player at a before match lunch. These players are the top American tennis icons. To an NFL fan this would be equivalent to going to see your favorite team play their biggest game of the year and meeting the players. It is a very unique opportunity. The problem is that attending this event will cause me to miss my older sister’s college graduation. I am 16 and she is 21. She is not graduating from a special college and she is getting a business degree. The entire family will be there, no one is coming from out of town though. My mother is leaving the choice up to me and I have no idea as to what I should do. My sister never comes home and if she does she comes to mainly see her friends. I mention that to show what kind of relation ship we have. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!
Also… I never get opportunities like this. I can’t afford things like this. This is a rare chance for me. i believe that my sis would take this deal over my graduation.

do you agree with these top 10 tennis predictions for 2010 ?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

1. Roger Federer doesn’t win a major title. I don’t think Federer has added the last major to his resume (he has won 15, more than any man in history). The upcoming year, though, promises to be the most challenging of his career as the tour’s young stars (chiefly Juan Martin del Potro and Andy Murray) mature, and Federer’s long-time rival, Rafael Nadal, looks to regain his form after recovering from injuries. This would be Federer’s first year without a major title since 2002.

2. Rafael Nadal wins the French Open and Wimbledon. Nadal isn’t going to age as well as Federer, but I don’t think we have to worry about that just yet. He’ll turn 24 in June and has at least two more good seasons left in his sometimes-achy knees. Once he recaptures Paris, he’ll have a lot of confidence headed into Wimbledon.

3. Maria Sharapova wins the Australian Open. In Melbourne, all eyes will be on the newly unretired Justine Henin, last year’s comeback champ, Kim Clijsters, and defending champion Serena Williams. Sharapova will upstage them all. The 24-year-old Russian struggled with injuries in 2009 and couldn’t master a new service motion, but she played better in the fall (and also reverted to her old service motion). Sharapova performs well in Melbourne and there’s no reason she can’t return to the form that won the title there in 2008.

4. Justine Henin wins the French Open, but not Wimbledon. Since she announced her comeback, Henin has been talking about Wimbledon, the only major title to elude her. Winning it so early in her comeback is too much to ask.

5. Novak Djokovic becomes the No. 1 player in the world. The Serb could accomplish this without winning a major title, since he put in so-so performances in Australia, Paris and London last year (quarterfinals, third round and quarterfinals, respectively) and can gain lots of points at those tournaments. This is the case even if prediction No. 2 (Nadal wins the French Open and Wimbledon) comes true, provided Nadal doesn’t perform nearly as well at the Australian and U.S. Opens, where he has a lot of points to defend (winner and semifinal).

6. Venus Williams doesn’t win a major, contemplates retirement. Last year’s Wimbledon final took a lot out of the elder Williams sister. She’ll turn 30 this year and the women’s field, weak in recent years, is suddenly difficult again now that Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova are motivated and healthy. If Venus continues to suffer from niggling injuries and perform poorly at the major tournaments, she might well call it quits.

7. Argentina wins the Davis Cup. To residents of the greatest tennis nation to never with the Davis Cup I say, “2010 is your year.” Juan Martin del Potro is getting better by the month. David Nalbandian is ready come back from injury. And for once, the team will get along well enough to capture a title, while defeating Russia and defending champion Spain along the way.

8. Melanie Oudin drops in the rankings. Melanie Oudin is for real. She’s tough-minded, has first-rate footwork, and her playing style is suited to all surfaces. She still needs time to mature, however. Oudin plays a risky game (lots of angles and little margin for error) and I expect her to lose more bets this year, now that people are expecting a lot from her. Good things, perhaps great things, are in her future, but probably not in 2010.

9. Dinara Safina falls outside the Top 10. Safina, who’s been suffering from a lower back injury, was a wreck (mentally and physically) by the end of 2009. In 2010, we’re going to see how tough it is to obtain the No. 1 ranking by playing pretty well everywhere but not winning many tournaments. Safina has points to defend at almost every stop on the tour next season. Her ranking could fall far, and quickly.

10. Andy Roddick becomes a father. I’m not privy to any pending announcement, so calm down. The recently married Roddick would make a good dad, though. Why should papa Federer have all the fun?

This is my 2009 tennis awards in response to the question below, respond if you like?

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

When are Y!A tennis fans going to learn that there is more to tennis than just the big name guys? Without the popularity contest here is a real list which includes the top 100 guys and gals. Keep in mind that it’s in response to http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArD1dJfp7Ssgd5E1jVop8xwmDX1G;_ylv=3?qid=20091212070937AAFSeFG so some of if won’t make sense until you read that question first. If you disagree post pictures to prove your point. Thanks for reading

1. Best hair male – WINNER: Feliciano Lopez- Verdasco may have the higher ranking but Lopez is always 1 up on his Spanish compatriot in the hair department
RUNNER UP: Roger Federer- Federer is a one trick pony. His hair is always the same style but nobody can deny he’s got great hair. Verdasco would be second runner up if there was one.

2. Best hair female – WINNER: Ana Ivanovic no argument here
RUNNER UP: Maria Kirilenko- What’s so great about Maria Sharapova’s hair? I can think of a lot of girls with better hair including Alona Bondarenko, Victoria Azarenka, Dominika Cibulkova, Anna Chakvetadze, Marion Bartoli, Daniela Hantuchova, and Gisela Dulko.

3. Best smile male – WINNER: Ernests Gulbis- This guy could light up a room with his beautiful smile
RUNNER UP: Roger Federer- Sometimes when he smiles he looks like he has down syndrome but there is a sincerity there that’s cute.

4. Best smile female – WINNER: Elena Vesnina- Just because Jankovic smiles a lot doesn’t mean she has the best smile. Vesnina is super cute when she smiles
RUNNER UP: Peng shuai- Cute as a button when she smiles. Wozniacki is a cute girl but when she smiles there is just too much gum exposed

5. Best celebration – WINNER: Ivo Karlovic- No argument here
RUNNER UP: Radek Stepanek- His celebration after winning points or matches is classic (remember the worm dance?). Roger Federer’s celebration is neither unique or interesting.

6. Funniest Moment – WINNER: Novak Djokivic. RUNNER UP: Tommy Haas. (I’m not sure what this category is about but I’ve never associated Tommy Haas with being funny. I’d say Tursunov is funny but then again I don’t even know what this category is about)

7. Best shot – WINNER: Roger Federer. RUNNER UP: Andy Roddick and Juan-Martin Del Potro. (which tournaments?)

8. Best newcomer – WINNER: Thomaz Bellucci- is the man I thought would be the first to beat Rafa at RG but Soderling beat him to it. He cracked the top 50 for the first time this year and won the first title of his career on clay this year. Querrey has been in the top 50 since 2007, he’s not a newcomer.
RUNNER UP: Melanie Oudin- Can’t argue with that.

9. Sexiest Player female – WINNER: Alona Bondarenko- Is not the prettiest of the bunch but she’s the sexiest. Look up her pictures on Y!A and even her candid shots looks like a spread for a men’s magazine. http://jibi.blog.football365.fr/jibi/photos/Alona_Bondarenko_3.jpg If this was who is the prettiest Ana would win hands down. Ana Ivanovic is one of if not the prettiest girl on tour.
RUNNER UP: Gisela Dulko

10. Sexiest player male – WINNER: Marat Safin- Marat has that aura of confidence and manliness that’s oh so sexy.
RUNNER UP: Feliciano Lopez- Is model sexy

11. Most emotional moment – WINNER: Roger Federer. RUNNER UP: Andy Roddick. (I don’t get it, when and where?) I thought Fabrice Sontoro’s last match was emotional because is marked the end of an era. I also though Jelena Dokic retiring against Dementieva after being up was more emotional than anything Federer or Roddick came up with because her story is so tragic unlike theirs.

12. Best tournament – WINNER: Wimbledon. RUNNER UP: US Open and Australian Open.

13. Best chest hair – WINNER: Juan-Martin Del Potro. RUNNER UP: Roger Federer. (what exactly qualifies certain chest hair better than others? lol)

14. Best legs female – WINNER: Yanina Wickmayer- She’s got great legs http://www.flickr.com/photos/b_r_i_a_n_/3359757186/
RUNNER UP: Venus Williams- Venus might not have much going for her face wise but she has killer legs. Dementieva’s legs are thick and manly.

15. Best legs male – WINNER: Robin Soderling- has the best legs on tour hand down. Roger Federer has two twigs holding up his torso.
RUNNER UP: Ivan Ljubicic

16. Best dressed – WINNER: Roger Federer- No argument here
RUNNER UP: Maria Sharapova- No argument here

17. Worst dressed – WINNER: Akgul Amanmuradova- Serena can get wacky with her get up but she dresses better than this http://www.flickr.com/photos/28990363@N05/3245408522/ or this http://www2.tennisserver.com/images/photofeed/2007/WSFG/Amanmu

Since the tennis section rocks, should Yahoo! give us a guest questioner for our amazing dedication to Y!A?

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

I mean I think they should spring for a Williams sister, or an Andy Roddick, or a JAMES BLAKE. Hell, I’ll take Melanie Oudin or a Bethanie Mattek, haha. We never get anyone famous to ask a tennis section. How did Yahoo get Obam and Oprah? If they got them, they can surely get one of our fave tennis players. We deserve it, all us tennis section users worship tennis, and give Y!A lots of time, lol.
